On January 25, 2006, the films competed in the annual "bake-off" at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where Academy committee members determined the three official nominees.
Following the announcement of the official nominees on January 31, 2006, registered AWN Showcase readers voted for their favorite film to win the Oscar® for best VFX. The ceremony for the 78th Academy Awards® will be held in Hollywood, California on March 5, 2006.
